Russian for Bilingual Kids (Soroka Program)
This course is designed for English-speaking children from bilingual families who are learning Russian as a heritage language. After mastering the Russian alphabet, students move on to the “Soroka” curriculum by Marianna Averi, a program created specifically for children growing up in a bilingual environment. In addition to the main Soroka lessons, children expand their vocabulary through thematic topics, practice everyday dialogues in class, and work on correct pronunciation. Students also develop writing skills and gradually build confidence in reading and speaking Russian. The teacher speaks both Russian and English. New topics are explained in English when needed, with a gradual introduction of Russian so that children feel comfortable and do not experience stress from the language barrier.
